Segmented Blue Cones (8x8x8) is a play on color and optics, in the sense that the interior is composed of two colors of dichroic glass set in a field of leaded and non-leaded plate glass. The hundred pieces of color are then filtered through the two cones on either side of the center construction, and are stretched into other shapes and colors. The ends of the cones are ground flat and then lenses are added to create a variety of effects. The bottom of the piece is ground flat and polished and then affixed to a circle of plate glass that fits into the recessed top of the spinning anodized aluminum base. The metaphor for this piece would be how a closer look can reveal the essence of things. And it's fun to spin.
