Symbol I Cube measures 10x10x9 and is distinctive in that it has large geometric symbols sandblasted into the dichroic glass in the inner cube. It shares a space with leaded and unleaded glasses, which help those images to be reflected and refracted throughout the piece. First a cube is fashioned, polished all around, and then cut in half and reassembled with an optical crystal wedge between the two halves. It's then affixed to a plate glass circle which sits in the recessed top of the spinning anodized aluminum base. I love deconstructing things and then reassembling them. This piece is no exception. The metaphor I often use is that wholeness can be broken and then rebirthed, that it doesn't look the same, but it has the same strengths and essence. In some ways it's even more beautiful.
